Назначение
Предназначен для транспортировки личного состава мотострелковых подразделений при совершении марша или маневра войсками, включая преодоление сходу водных преград, защиты экипажа и десанта от огня стрелкового оружия, мин, осколков снарядов и поражающих факторов ОМП.
Конструктивные особенности
Характеристики подвижности модернизированных БТР-70М улучшены в результате установки на них мощного и пожаробезопасного дизельного двигателя КАМАЗ-7403, как на БТР-80, взамен двух бензиновых.
Машина представляет собой модернизированный бронетранспортер типа БТР-70, которому в процессе модернизации заменяют моторное отделение, вооружение и большую часть других узлов и агрегатов. По своим характеристикам он приближен к БТР-80.
Корпус и башня бронетранспортера сварные из стальной противопульной брони. На бронетранспортер могут устанавливаться два типа башен – пулеметная или пушечно-пулеметная (с автоматической пушкой 2А72).
